Hi Linda,

I appreciated your coverage of the recently passed Albany smoking ordinance. Now that you're off to Beijing I'd be interested to hear your impressions of tobacco use in China. According to what I've heard, the Chinese have declared the games "Smoke Free" and the American Cancer Society (where I work) is working to help by asking US businesses with offices in Beijing to sign a smoke-free declaration for their offices there. Have a safe trip!

Hello Linjun:

Thanks for covering the recent Albany Lunar New Year event. My string students played first on the program in front of the Cornell School following the parade and we were thrilled to be invited to perform. We're looking forward to playing annually at this celebration of culture and music.

Every city should have a website that covers pertinent events the way yours does. What a great idea! Congratulations and TWO thumbs up!

Hi Richard,

Thanks for writing the message and sharing with us some old stories of Albany. I think it's a good idea to write about Albany's history. I plan to write several stories on it when the centennial of the city comes up in a few months.

Best,

I like "Albany Today". I lived in albany from 1946 until 1969. Went through Albany Schools. I'm Albany's Tony Bennet. I left my heart in Albany. Now I can't afford to move back. I live in El Sauzal, B.C., Mex. with my wife and son. You asked for any suggestions on articles I'd like to see. As an oldtimer you can guess that I'd like to see more Albany history. I remember all the old merchants on Solano Ave., old teachers at Marin and AHS, even remember when they built the swimming pool. I would love to see a little article about "Marin Market". It was on Marin next to the Santa Fe tracks. It was run by the Shew family and Harold and Susie Wong. Alfred Shew and his sister Peggy Shew might still be around. Also Linda Wong did live in El Sobrante I think. Harold Wong has pasted but maybe Susie his wife might still be going strong. When Harold had to close Marin Market he bought Villas Market on Gilman on changed the name to Harold's. Maybe an old photo of Marin Market could be found. The Shews and Wong's were some of the finest people to live in Albany and are part of it's rich history. I can think of alot of old Albany stories I'd like to see done but sadly maybe I'm the only person interested. Keep up the good work.
                                                Sincerely
                                                Richard Holcomb

Hi Linda

I hope you don't mind me writing this open letter to everyone who reads your Albany blog.

I've known Linda for more than 5 years now when I was working and studying in Beijing and she was one of the top students at Peking University, one of China's finest educational institutions. Linda always impressed me with her intelligence, big smile, enthusiasm and love of life.

I'm so happy for Linda that she has been able to follow the dream of getting to the United States and studying at one of the country's top universities. I hope all of the readers of Albany Today will support Linda's work and in turn show your appreciation to this highly talented and dedicated young woman.

I wish her all the best in the US, with this blog and with her studies, and with everything she does in life - and I'm sure you will too.

With best regards
Digby Ross
