Election workers at polling places in Albany and elsewhere say turnout has been very light today in the state’s special election. However, the results of the election will have a big impact on California residents.
For instance, if propositions 1A and 1B fail, public school students will lose even more programs in their schools. If proposition 1F fails, legislators will be able to continue to get pay raises even during budget deficits. And if all the propositions fail, the state budget deficit will balloon to yet a more daunting size, requiring cuts in services across the spectrum from healthcare to highway maintenance, because the state is required to produce a balanced budget.
The polls close at 8 p.m.
