Per Loni's suggestion, I gave the Governor's office a call. As her suggestion makes at least some more sense than others I've heard kicked around, I let the staffer who answered know that in my opinion (1) No budget should cut school funding by any amount and (2) That I supported Loni's proposed course of action.

I was a little surprised at the tone of the pushback I got from the staffer. They proceeded to explain why the Governor vetoed the $18M proposal, and that the Governor is hard at work pushing for a better solution. I also got a lecture on why the Democrats were and are wrong. And let's just say his tone was not at all congenial.

My impression is that if this is the response constituents get when expressing their views to the Governor, I understand even better why the budget process remains in a virtual stalemate.
