The Jamba Juice at the top of Solano is closed... papered over today, with all the equipment being lugged out. And a sign alering the Jamba-deprived that the El Cerrito store was still open (a former Jamba space on the 1600 block of Shattuck is still vacant). I'm surprised by this one, as the immediate area gets a lot of pedestrian traffic, including by HS and younger kids, and it seemed moderately busy when it was open.

Wataya (corner of Santa Fe and Solano) is moving (I presume, out of Albany), but the space will apparently be filled by Gathering Tribes, further up Solano in Berkeley, next to the Bone Room.

Bistro 1491 recently opened in the Walker's Pie Shop space.

As someone who walks upper Solano on very nearly a daily basis, there're a few signs of stress, but only a few long-vacant retail spaces. Biggest change lately has been the removal of most of the parking meters in favor of the ticketing kiosks.

Linjun, thank you for covering this ribbon cutting. Could you add a photo caption mention of Tod Abbott? Tod is the President of the Albany Chamber of Commerce , which organizes Albany ribbon cuttings. He has been the driving force in expanding Albany Chamber of Commerce events and services for all local businesses including those, like Cafe St Honore, on San Pablo Ave. 862 San Pablo Ave per the Chamber's website listing of businesses/hours/etc. Your faithful reader, Caryl
